The Rite is a cinematic adaption of novel “The Rite: The Making of a Modern Exorcist” by Matt Baglio. Inspired by actual events, the story follows a seminary student Michael Kovak, played by Colin O’Donoghue, who attends exorcism school located in the Vatican, against his wishes. In the city of Rome, he encounters a very unorthodox priest – Father Lucas, played by Anthony Hopkins, who introduces Kovak to the side of faith that he is unaware of. The Father acquaints his student with the dark side of the faith and the power of the Devil.

The rite of exorcism is a course run by Vatican affiliated university to help students differentiate between the people who are mentally ill and those who are actually possessed. Kovak, initially a rational skeptic starts practicing exorcism as an apprentice to Father Lucas. The story is spiritual journey of Kovak which throws up such surprises as one would not expect from religious studies. Among the new movies that are going to be released, The rite certainly has the most intriguing plot. Add to it the acting skills of Colin Firth, of ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ and ‘Hannibal’ fame, the expectations from this movie literally sky-rocket.
