Flight search website gives top Harry Potter destinations
We love movie locations and whether it’s travelling to them or downloading software onto your mobile phone to find them, we like to know how you Boxwishers are inspired by them. If you’re a Harry Potter fanatic then why not visit some of the amazing locations used in the franchise? Online flight search engine Skyscanner.net has come up with a list of the top places to visit on a Harry Potter tour, listing countries all over the world which influence the young wizard’s story. Unsurprisingly coming in top is London’s Kings Cross train station where platform four stands in for platform nine and three quarters in the movie. In honour of the film the station have put up a ‘Platform 9¾’ sign and added a luggage trolley magically disappearing into a wall.
Second in this magical trip is Goathland station in North Yorkshire which serves as Hogsmeade station in the films, where the Hogwarts
students like Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson) depart for school. And if you want to stand on the ground where Harry stood (briefly) when he first learnt to fly a broomstick head to Alnwick Castle in Newcastle, where the outside scenes of Hogwarts are filmed. There are many exotic locations, which were not used in the films, in the list like Bulgaria as the home of Durmstrang School, Norway and Romania which are famous for their dragons in the wizarding world and Ireland as winners of the 1994 Quidditch World Cup.
Other places include London Zoo where Harry first learns he can speak to snakes, Scotland – Hogwarts location according to J.K. Rowling and Edinburgh where she finished the first Harry Potter book. Many other scenes have been filmed in London including interior Hogwarts shots in the Bodleian Library at Oxford, Leadenhall Market as Diagon Alley and The Strand as Gringotts bank. And if you want a really exciting Harry Potter holiday, wait until next spring when you’ll be able to go to the new Harry Potter Wizarding World theme park in Orlando, Florida.
