After the surprising sixth season finale of House, executive producer Katie Jacobs dishes on the House/Cuddy relationship and what will happen in the seventh season.
To say that last night’s sixth season finale of House was shocking would be an understatement. If it wasn’t Hannah’s ambulance ride that had your heart pounding, I’m sure the moment where House and Cuddy kissed certainly did.
However, fans have been through this before and they’re not just going to believe that what’s happening is real. Some believe that this could be a hallucination brought on by the fact that House, in fact, did take Vicodin.

With its beautiful backdrops, fascinating culture and tumultuous history, it’s no surprise that South Africa has been the setting for several successful movies. The combination of mountains and movie stars is undoubtedly a recipe for success as the popularity of these films has demonstrated.

Invictus

The most recent film to be made about South Africa, Invictus merges the story of Nelson Mandela’s opening year in office with the progress of the national rugby team in their bid to win the 1995 World Cup. The film documents Mandela’s attempts to use the success of the sports team to unite a country that has suffered from a rift for many years. Directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon this was sure to be a box office hit for 2010. The World Cup final takes place in Cape Town, and during the build up the viewer is privy to some phenomenal shots of Table Mountain and the surrounding landscapes. Nominated for two Oscars and a Golden Globe, this film perfectly encapsulates South Africa’s history and tells the story of one its most famous leaders.

Blood Diamond

In Blood Diamond, you will see a slightly different side of South Africa and parts of this film are certainly not for the faint hearted. However, it relays an important message about the way in which many of the diamonds worn by westerners have been acquired. The movie is set in a number of locations, depicting small local villages, the city of Cape Town, and the forests and mountains surrounding the city. The lead role really gives Leonardo di Caprio the chance to test out a more rough and ready style of acting, though his South African accent can be questionable at times. Though this film is heart wrenching in some places and somewhat violent in others, it raises awareness about the blood diamonds that are being exported out of the country even now.

District 9

Mingling everyday life in South Africa with the arrival of extra terrestrials, this film focuses purely on fantasy. The film tells of the arrival of an enormous space ship over Cape Town, from which an entire race of aliens exit and set up home in slums on the outskirts of the city. In the course of the film, a government agent becomes exposed to the aliens’ biotechnology, and as he begins to slowly evolve into an extra terrestrial being himself, he begins to understand the plight of the aliens and fight their corner. Less of a depiction of South Africa’s history or contemporary life, this film focuses purely on the futuristic sci fi. However, as the camera pans out across the slums, the backdrop of Table Mountain never fails to impress. Nominated for 4 Oscars, District 9 is an interesting take on the South African lifestyle.

Boasting a wealth of interesting history, intriguing culture, and beautiful scenery, South Africa is not only an ideal topic for a film, but it is the perfect location for filming. Many box office bonanzas have been produced either on, or in, this fascinating location, and many more are yet to come.

Caricature needs an eye that knows which feature will be the best to distort or simplify. The creations of French artist, Anthony Geoffroy are seen in the pictures where he has a large collection of tv show and movie celebrities. From series like LOST, Desperate Housewives, Scrubs to Sex in the city, he has them all in caricatures that make you laugh. Even though they just look funny on the surface, a lot of thought has gone into getting the details right.

He seems to have the ability to make the caricature suit their characters in the movie or the TV shows. He has successfully made them look mean, intelligent, sexy and stupid. It is amazing how he has got the eyes just right on everybody and how the distortions don’t make them unrecognizable. He has also given some thought to backgrounds by keeping it green for LOST, tiled for HOUSE, stars for Ugly Betty, etc.

We have seen a lot of great movies in 2009 and a few not so good ones. As the year is coming to an end, it is time to list which one’s did make it to the top. A movie is a gamble either the viewers like it or they don’t. So let’s see who has played the right cards and won.

When you consider who made the most money-wise, Transformer ROTF tops the list without doubt at a whooping $402,111,870. Even though Michael Bay has spent a squillion dollars making this movie, it must have felt worth every bit at the end. This number is whole hundred million ahead of the next in list, Harry Potter 6. Harry Potter 6 takes the second place by making $300, 880,041. Both the movies have been very popular among the young crowd.

Star Trek follows closely at $257,730,019 which is the eleventh film and was released in May 2009. This film is the highest earning film among the Star Trek series and has gained the best reviews so far. X-men Origins: Wolverine starring Hugh Jackman earned $179,883,157 and earned a position among the top ten money making films of 2009. This movie was a treat for Wolverine fans with its action packed scenes.

The military themed G.I. Joe made $149,643,000 and took the fifth spot. This film has action, adventure and science fiction all rolled into one. Terminator Salvation with its heavy action and violence takes the sixth place with $125,322,469. Directed by McG, it has a lot of action but the reviews have not all been good. In spite of a lot of bad reviews, it is surprising that this made it to the list of top 10 money making movies.

With a small difference in the numbers, District 9 came seventh with $114,873,680. This movie has got very good reviews and was well loved. The unpredictable nature of the film kept the audience glued to it till the end. District 9 was followed by Watchmen which earned a good $107, 509,799. Watchmen didn’t disappoint the viewers like most films based on books do. It has exceeded most expectations and come within the top ten list.

Taking the ninth position in the top 10 best money making movies is Zombieland which earned $60,823,000. This funny horror film was liked well by the audience and moved the movie into the top 10 list. Released in the beginning of the year, Underworld 3 managed to stay on the list with $45,802,315. It was loved by all the Underworld fans as it is a prequel to the previous movies. This movie definitely puts the first two movies to shame with its excellent plot line and action.

This seems to have been a year with all action packed movies taking the top spots. When we look at the list, it is obvious that the viewers love a good plotline. All the mushy, love stories seem to have taken the back benches for this year.

Avatar’ is No. 1 again, soars past $1 billion worldwide

Thanks to astronomic word-of-mouth, inflated 3-D ticket prices, and consecutive holiday weekends that began on a Friday, Avatar continued its seemingly unstoppable climb to the Hallelujah Mountains of U.S. and global box office. According to estimates from Hollywood.com Box Office, James Cameron’s sci-fi opus grossed $68.3 million over New Years weekend, a tiny 10 percent drop from Christmas weekend for a $352.1 million domestic total — easily the biggest third weekend in the U.S. ever (2002’s Spider-Man had held the record with $45 million). Much more impressively, in just 17 days, Avatar has surpassed $1 billion in global box office. To put that in perspective, it took The Dark Knight pretty much its entire theatrical run just to make it to that milestone. (Another landmark: $66.4 million of Avatar’s worldwide total is from IMAX theaters, a record for the mega-screen format.)

Now that we’re into October, we understand that Halloween is the conversation of choice for many Boxwishers and indeed us here at Team Boxwish. To this end, we’ll be rolling out loads of exciting spooky stuff, but for those of you who like to be ahead of the pack and are dressing up for the scary shindig, look no further than this week’s eBay find. Yes, we’ve taken a cyber stroll around the auction site, eBay and found this fantastic replica of the Batsuit worn by Christian Bale as the caped crusader in last year’s mega-hit The Dark Knight. Holy fancy dress Batman, this is one sophisticated costume that is sure to stand out from the crowd like the Bat signal.

The costume is a full top-to-toe adult Batsuit that is made-to-measure (so not to worry if you’re not quite as buff as Bruce Wayne) and is made from high quality urethane among other materials. It’s comprised of the armour, cowl, under-suit, belt, gloves, boots and cape and though it looks pretty fierce, was constructed with the wearer in mind with Velcro straps and elastic bands all working together to ensure its fully adjustable and comfortable. Likewise, the boots and gloves are available in a range of sizes, as we all know there’s nothing worse than a costume that’s too tight when you’re trying to save Gotham from deadly foes.

There are three available and the seller, Vericetti, promises that it can be delivered in time for 31st October. It’s not cheap, but then for those of us that don’t know Lucius Fox, it’s the best solution to scoring such an authentic and convincing-looking replica. Guaranteed to terrify any wannabe Jokers.

The Autobots and Decepticons begin slugging it out at the boxoffice Wednesday as “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” Michael Bay’s sequel to his 2007 hit, opens for business.

The Paramount/DreamWorks production is invading 4,226 theaters in North America, including 169 Imax locations. In many locations, screenings were expected to start just after midnight.

Since its boxoffice domination is assured — most competitors stayed away from confronting “Transformers” head-on — the only question now is how muscular the alien robot tale, based on the Hasbro toy line, will be.

The first “Transformers” grabbed $155.4 million in its first seven days. By the end of this weekend, its sequel could hit a number in that same neighborhood — but in just five days.

“This looks like it could be one of the biggest Wednesday openers — with a shot of being the biggest,” Paramount vice chairman Rob Moore said, predicting a five-day haul in the $130 million-$150 million range.

Par’s competitors are betting the five-day number could climb higher than that, but Moore said, ” ‘Transformers’ should open bigger than the first one, but to forecast beyond that is a little insane.”

Comparisons are tricky since the two “Transformers’” movies are adopting slightly different rollout patterns.

“T1,” debuting in 4,011 theaters, opened on a Monday evening on July 2, 2007, and played through the Fourth of July holiday, which that year fell on a Wednesday. Fanboys flocked to the movie’s Monday showings, which took in $8.8 million, and momentum built for its Tuesday and Wednesday screenings, dipped a bit on Thursday, and then rallied for a Friday-Sunday weekend of $70.5 million.

“T2″ is forgoing early evening screenings — exhibitors have to wait until a minute after midnight to throw the switch — so grosses from those midnight shows will roll over into the movie’s opening Wednesday figure, which could rise to $35 million-$40 million. The Friday-to-Sunday number should outdo that of the first movie, checking in at $80 million-$90 million.

The suspense will be whether the newest “Transformers” can set a record along the way.

The five-day record for a Wednesday opener belongs to 2004’s “Spider-Man 2,” which notched $152.4 million. “Transformers” is likely to find itself in similar territory.

The mark for the biggest first five days, which belongs to “The Dark Knight” — a Friday opener that raked in $203.8 million in its first five days — is expected to stand.

Similarly, “Knight” also holds the record for biggest single-day and opening-day gross: $67.2 million, and that’s another record that almost any film would be hard-pressed to topple.

Set “Knight” aside, though, and “Transformers” looks pretty formidable on its own terms. While Bay has been worrying that the studio hasn’t gotten the word out, that doesn’t appear to be the case. Tracking is coming on strong, and there is evidence that the movie’s potential audience has expanded.

Movietickets.com reported Tuesday that the film, which now accounts for 93% of the online ticket seller’s sales, had sold out more than 600 performances nationwide, including 274 midnight showings.

While men of all ages were primed for the original movie, younger women are showing almost as much interest as older males in the sequel, according to Moore. And even older women, many of whom will be bringing younger sons, are showing an openness to the movie.

“The cast is higher profile — Shia (LaBeouf) has been in ‘Indiana Jones’ and ‘Eagle Eye,’ and Megan (Fox) has become a celebrity in her own right,” Moore noted. That has contributed to the interest on the part of younger women, he said.

The rest of Hollywood has made Paramount’s job easier by clearing a path for “Transformers.” Competing studios booked May full of big-ticket movies — “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” “Star Trek,” “Angels & Demons” and “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian” — but have mostly opened smaller comedies in recent weeks.

And since none of those earlier movies has turned into $300 million domestic grossers, the door is open for “Transformers” and, possibly, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” which opens July 15, to reach for those heights.

At the same time, “Transformers” is also breaking worldwide. It opened during the past weekend in the U.K. and Japan and bows everywhere else in the world this week, with the exception of India, where it will set down July 20.

10: 2003 Mini Cooper S, “The Italian Job”

Drivetrain: 163-hp, supercharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with six-speed manual transmission; front-wheel drive
Notable Features: 200 pounds lighter than stock Cooper S; painted red, white or blue

Larger cars would have rubbed fenders with light poles and tunnel walls, but thanks to a nimble fleet of Mini Coopers, a band of conspirators manages to escape captors down congested streets, parks and subway tunnels. (Parks? Mass transit? In Los Angeles?) Computer-rigged signals aid the getaway, stopping cross traffic at red lights. Sounds like California dreaming for drivers.

9: 1959 Cadillac Ambulance, “Ghostbusters”

Drivetrain: 325-hp, 6.4-liter V-8; rear-wheel drive
Notable Features: Tailfins, flashing lights, sirens, attached ladder

Though it plays a relatively small part in its film, the Ectomobile is the finest medical movie car to date. What it lacks in brute force it makes up in style, with red tailfins, strobe lights and more roof gear than a fire truck. Should there ever be a remake, our pick for the new Ectomobile would be the Dodge Magnum. Right, Egon?

8: 1974 Dodge Monaco, “The Blues Brothers”

Drivetrain: 275-hp, 7.1-liter V-8 with three-speed automatic transmission; rear-wheel drive
Notable Features: Cop motor, cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks

You usually don’t come out ahead when swapping a Caddy for a Dodge — unless the Dodge has a 440-cubic-inch V-8. The Bluesmobile would be our pick if we had to outrun the better half of Illinois police, not to mention a neo-Nazi outfit and a country-and-western band. The car totally falls apart in the end, but you’d be hard-pressed to find a vehicle that could do better on “a mission from God.”

7: 1932 Ford coupe, “American Graffiti”

Drivetrain: 60-hp, 3.6-liter V-8 with three-speed manual transmission
Notable Features: Bright yellow paint job bound to be noticed by bored teens in Modesto, Calif.

Nicknamed the “Deuce,” this five-window ‘32 Ford coupe is the quintessential American hot rod. As built, it came with the engine mentioned above, but in the movie, it’s clear the coupe has been souped up. It was the car’s awesome growl and the cool drag race at the end of the movie that lodged this hot rod into the hearts of American teens for a decade.

6: 1976 AMC Pacer, “Wayne’s World”

Drivetrain: 100-hp inline-six with three-speed automatic transmission; rear-wheel drive
Notable Features: Flame decal, licorice dispenser, “Bohemian Rhapsody” on continuous playback

Although this movie may not have driven thousands of people to track down a baby blue Mirth Mobile of their own, it did inspire a number of in-car, head-banging singalongs by fans of the film.

5: 1968 Ford Mustang GT 390, “Bullitt”

Drivetrain: 325-hp, 6.4-liter V-8 with four-speed manual transmission; rear-wheel drive
Notable Features: Fastback roof, higher engine note than the Charger

Never mind the continuity mishaps; just tell yourself there were a lot of green Volkswagen Beetles in San Francisco that day. The seven-minute chase scene between Frank Bullitt’s Mustang GT 390 and a hit man’s 1968 Dodge Charger is among the best of its kind. Voters gave Bullitt’s car the edge because, in the end, you have to root for the good guy.

4: 1964 Aston Martin DB5, “Goldfinger”

Drivetrain: 282-hp, 4.0-liter six-cylinder with four-speed manual transmission; rear-wheel drive
Notable Features: Bulletproof glass, machine guns, incessantly beeping radar screen

Save for the anemic BMW Z3 1.9 in “GoldenEye,” Bond cars are top-notch — the list includes Aston Martins, Bentleys and Lotuses — but voters agreed the champ is the Aston Martin DB5 in “Goldfinger.” Not only is it gorgeous, it outruns and out-gadgets all of its competitors. Plus it gets plenty of screen time with the best Bond, Sean Connery. Any dissenters, of course, are welcome to ride in the “power” passenger seat.

3: 1961 Ferrari 250 GT, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”

Drivetrain: 280-hp, 3.0-liter V-12 with four-speed manual transmission; rear-wheel drive
Notable Features: Cherry-red exterior, wire grille, Cameron-sized tonneau compartment

This movie is probably responsible for thousands of teens cutting class to joyride in their father’s car. Of course, none hold a candle to Mr. Frye’s convertible Ferrari. It won votes for all the obvious reasons: It’s red, Italian and bloody fast. If our fathers owned something like this, we’d ditch Econ 101 in a heartbeat to take a spin — especially if Dad didn’t lock the garage. (And yes, we know this was a kit car.)

2: 1977 Pontiac Trans Am, “Smokey and the Bandit”

Drivetrain: 200-hp, 6.6-liter V-8 with three-speed automatic
Notable Features: T-top, CB radio, runaway bride in the passenger seat

The mission seemed simple enough: Get a truckload of bootleg beer from Texarkana, Texas, to Atlanta while Bo “Bandit” Darville runs interference in his Trans Am. The combination of the comical car chases and Burt Reynolds’ mustache sold more than a few black and gold versions of Bandit’s car.

1: 1981 DeLorean DMC-12, “Back to the Future”

Drivetrain: 1.21-gigawatt nuclear/electric hybrid with five-speed manual transmission; rear-wheel drive
Notable Features: Gull-wing doors, 16-port twin exhaust boxes, flux capacitor

This was an overwhelming choice for voters, and why not? Doc Brown’s smoke-spewing DeLorean achieves time travel at 88 mph thanks to a plutonium-powered nuclear reactor and onboard flux capacitor. By the end of the first movie, it runs solely on trash — and it can fly. That’s still futuristic two decades after the movie debuted. Sure, the ignition seems to have some reliability issues, but this car easily won our hearts.

Honorable Mentions:

* 1958 Plymouth Fury, “Christine”
* 1973 Ford Falcon, “The Road Warrior”
* 1975 Lotus Esprit, “The Spy Who Loved Me”
