Nina (Portman) is a young ballerina in the New York City Ballet Company. Her life circles around her dance. When Thomas Leroy (Hershey) decides to show the company’s prima ballerina, Beth (Ryder) the way out, search for a new lead begins. Nina, being the best is Leroy’s obvious choice but things go wrong when Lily (Kunis), a new Ballerina manages to impress Leroy. The company’s next production is to be Swan Lake which requires the lead to play the gullible white swan as well as the sensuous black swan. Nina fits into the white swan role whereas lily is more of a black swan. The two ballerinas develop a strange relationship from their rivalry. Nina’s hunger for the role introduces her to a whole new dark side of hers.

Movie review of Black Swan leads to the conclusion that it is not a movie worth missing. It is perhaps the most critically acclaimed of all the new movies. Portman is a piece of grace throughout the movie. She lost 20 pounds and even resumed ballet lessons from her childhood to be able to play the petite ballerina. Portman remembered to do her homework and it shows on the screen. The ballet scenes are magical. However, the director gives the movie a few horror inclinations. Also, there is a lot of beating around the bush in the beginning but the story and Portman’s performance stabilises as the story commences.
Though an epic movie, it may come across as melodramatic to some. A few people may find the competition in the company ostensibly intensified. At the end of the day, Black Swan is one of the best movies of the new movies.

I wasn’t expecting this kind of performance from Natalie Portman. I know she is a great actress but this was amazing! My co-worker told me it was a good movie but this movie to me was incredible. I’m just so shocked at everything. Natalie Portman you have truly proven yourself!
